This vintage desk lamp designed by Robert Sonneman features a distinctive Space Age style design in matte black.
A sculptural presence with a subtle futuristic character.
This iconic 80’s design by Robert Sonneman (1943, NY) for lighting manufacturer George Kovacs is often referred to as a Saturn banker’s lamp due to its circular form.
Crafted with a striking shade resembling planetary rings, this lamp combines geometric clarity with a softly diffused light output (dimmable). The balanced composition is supported by a stable O- base and a clean, architectural stem, emphasizing both usability and visual rhythm. The form reflects design tendencies associated with late modernist and Space Age lighting, where experimentation with shape and proportion played a central role.
This model was produced by various manufacturers, including SMC Boxford and George Kovacs; however, since the lamp is unmarked, the manufacturer remains unknown.

The lamp works properly and is in an excellent vintage condition with minor signs of use/age. No chips or damages on the glass plate.
There is 1 clip of the small glass plate replaced, but this is only visible when looking from below.
A characterful lighting piece that adds sculptural interest to a workspace or interior setting, ideal for desks, side tables or curated modern interiors.
