Vintage Dijkstra Brass Floor Lamp with Adjustable Height and Swing Arm | Mid-Century Modern, 1970s

Vintage brass floor lamp by Dutch lighting manufacturer Dijkstra Lampen, featuring an adjustable height, articulated swing arm and rotating rectangular shade in a mid-century modern style.
Its warm brass finish, balanced proportions and architectural silhouette give this lamp a quietly sophisticated presence, combining functional lighting with a distinctly sculptural character.
The lamp features a slender, height-adjustable brass stem rising from a circular weighted base. Its height can be adjusted by loosening the central locking ring, while the articulated swing arm allows the light source to be positioned at different distances from the stem and the rotating shade provides directional illumination.
The rectangular shade is particularly distinctive, with softly rounded edges and a brushed brass surface. Its interior features a textured, hammered metal reflector that distributes the light while adding an unexpected layer of detail to the otherwise restrained design. An original Dijkstra Lampen label remains present inside the shade, confirming the manufacturer and indicating a maximum bulb wattage of 75 W.
This type of adjustable brass floor lamp is also commonly referred to as a banker’s, pharmacy, notary or reading lamp, valued for its functional design and precise directional lighting, both characteristic of European modernist lighting. Its construction and proportions recall comparable designs by Holtkötter, including model 9614 and 2527, and Florian Schulz, as well as the earlier functional swing-arm lighting developed by Walter von Nessen. These references reflect a shared design language rather than an attribution to those designers or manufacturers.
What distinguishes this Dijkstra example is the combination of its slender articulated construction, compact architectural shade and textured reflector. Together, these elements create a refined and functional piece of Dutch vintage lighting.
