This modular Banz Bord wall system is a German/Dutch design from the 1970s. The set comes with the original booklet and represents the modular thinking that defined Dutch interior architecture of the period.
A refined composition of wall-mounted elements, the system combines open shelving, suspended cabinets and low storage units in a carefully balanced architectural layout. The photos show how the wall unit was used by the original owner, but because it is completely modular, you can arrange it however you like.
The warm wood veneer, with its pronounced grain pattern, gives the otherwise strict geometry a natural depth and tactile presence. The vertical support panel anchors the composition visually, while the floating elements create a sense of lightness despite the substantial scale.
The mounting is fully concealed: metal hooks are fixed into the wall, after which the cabinets and shelves are slid securely over them, creating a clean, floating appearance without visible brackets.
Founded in 1965 by Dr. Banz in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, the Banz Bord system was developed from his desire to eliminate visible shelf brackets. He designed a unique steel support that allowed shelves to be mounted invisibly, creating a floating effect. In 1969, the company was transferred to a Dutch furniture family, after which the system was further expanded and became well established in the Netherlands through design-oriented retailers.
BanzBord systems were designed to offer flexibility and clean-lined functionality, in line with the modular philosophies also seen in wall systems by manufacturers such as Pastoe, Spectrum and Fristho during the same era. The construction and proportions reflect this broader movement in Dutch modernism, where adaptability and clarity of form were central principles.
